November 1, 1956 Elgin Newspaper Edson F VAN NOSTRAND (Elgin) Edson F VAN NOSTRAND, 86, retired Elgin city fireman 210 So Cherry Street died last night at 9 in St Joseph Hospital. Born in Elgin, April 17, 1870 the son of George Y and Olive Clark VAN NOSTRAND, he had resided here all of his life. The Van Nostrands celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on Jan 25, having been married in 1899. He was a member of the Faternal Order of Eagles for over 50 years. Surviving him besides his widow, Mrs. Celia VAN NOSTRAND, are a son, George E VAN NOSTRAND of Northridge, Calif; two daughters, Mrs Carl R (Ruth) LIND and Mrs Charles W (Violet) HOKE, both of Elgin, ten gradchildren and one great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 from the Norris-Reber mortuary with Dr Jesse Pindell Peiree, pastor of the First Congregational church, officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary after 7 this evening.
