George Y. VAN NOSTRAND NOTE: the following is word for word .. First two sentences make no sense but here it is. Elgin Daily Courier - April 21 1910 George Y. VAN NOSTRAND George Y. VAN NOSTRAND for many years. He was born in Seneca county .. inent member of the G. A. R., died this morning at 10 o'clock aged 78 years. He was born in Senaca county, New York, November 3, 1832 and came west early in life. He crossed the plaines with an ox team in 1854 and settled in Nevada. At the outbreak of the civil war he answered the call of his country, going to the front as a sergeant in the First Nevada Cavalry. After the war he came to this city, and in 1869 was married here to Olive CLARK. During his residence here he has been a carpenter and contractor and the last position he held was foreman at the asylum. Some years ago he went to California and remained there until two years ago, when he returned to Elgin. His health has not been of the best since that time, and his demise came after long inactivity. He leaves to mourn him two sisters, Mrs. Cornelia VAIL of St. Charles and Mrs. GIDDINGS of Romulus, N.Y., and four brothers of that city. In Elgin his widow, a son and three grandchildren, George, Ruth and Violet, also survive him. The funeral will be held from the late home, 210 Cherry street, at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon. The G. A. R. will be in charge of the services. Interment will be at Bluff City.
