JOEL SMITH

Died.  Joel SMITH, father of Mrs. Dr. H.L. PRATT, died suddenly this morning
at her home, 114 Chicago Street.  He was apparently well as usual during
yesterday, but was affected by a stroke of apoplexy at night, expiring at
1:30 this morning.  He was born at Rutland, Vt., in 1816, and came to
Illinois twnety-one years later.  For many years he lived at Marengo and had
recently been spending some time at his daughter's home on Chicago street.
A wife and one child, Mrs. Dr. PRATT, are left to mourn his loss.  The
funeral will be held at 114 Chicago Street Monday at 11 a.m., and remains
will be taken to Marengo for burial.
