JAMES SAGE JAMES SAGE was born in Hadley, Saratoga Co., N.Y. and died in Grand River Township, Decatur Co., Iowa, Oct. 9, l904, aged 8l years, l month and l4 days. He emigrated to Oswego, Ill., in l845, and on the l3th of November l855, was married to Martha G. STORY, of Aurora, Ill. To them were born six children of whom four are still living. Mr. and Mrs. SAGE moved to Decatur Co., in l869 and settled in the home where they were still living at the time of his death. He enlisted in the Army, Aug. 30, l862, as a member of the l29th Illinois Volunteers, and faithfully served his country until honorably discharged at the end of the civil war. Mr. SAGE was converted in his l7th year, and joined the Methodist Church of which he remained a faithful member until l890, when he joined the Wesleyan Methodist Church, remaining in this connection until death. His life was all that could be expected or desired in the life of an honest, upright, conscientious Christian. He was opposed to the liquor traffic, which is such a curse to our country. The funeral was preached at the Elk Chapel by Rev. A.C. Heckathorn from Heb. 7, 25, which quotation was one of his last utterances on earth. He said to the writer a few days before his death that he did not know whether he would live or die, but to him it made no difference as he was fully prepared to go. His remains rest in the Elk Chapel Cemetery.
