ESTHER SAMUELSON HAMPSHIRE - Esther SAMUELSON, 91, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1992, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elgin. She was born Sept. 26, 1901 in Hampshire, the daughter of Charles and Lydia (AURAND) SAMUELSON. She graduated from Hampshire High School, received her bachelor of science degree from Northern Illinois University, her master's degree from Northwestern University and worked toward a degree in Library Science at the University of Denver. Her teaching career spanned 52 years in Dundee Unit School District 300. In 1952, she organized the Junior and Senior High Library and Resource Center. The present resource center has been named in her honor - the Esther Samuelson Resource Center. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hampshire, the senior Sunday School class, the United Methodist Women, the Gamma Xi chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, the LLL Club, the Friends of the Ella Johnson Library and the Hampshire and Marengo Senior Citizens. Surviving are a brother, Clarence (Gertrude) SAMUELSON, and a sister, Pearl GILBERT, both of Marengo. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon and LeVoy SAMUELSON, and a sister, Mabel MARKS. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the First United Methodist Church in Hampshire, with the Rev. Fred Berchtold officiating. Burial will follow in the Hampshire Center Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the Fredrick Funeral Home in Hampshire and from 10 a.m. until the service Wednesday at the church.
