Death of Joseph STUBBS. Died, at his residence, 338 Liberty street, yesterday afternoon, Joseph STUBBS, aged 71 years, 10 months. He was born at Nottingham, England, Aug. 2d, 1819, was married to Sarah SMITH, Aug. 4th, 1844, at Sheffield, by whom he had nine children, six of whom survive him. They are: Mrs. Johnson COPELIN, of Indianapolis; Mrs. John GREENAWAY, Miss Mary and Frank STUBBS, of this city; James and E.W. STUBBS, of Beardstown, Ill. He came to America in 1849, settling first in Schenectady, N.Y., and moving to Aurora in 1853. He commenced working for the Burlington company, which was at the time called Chicago and Aurora, running the engine which some of the oldest railroad men may remember as the "Rocket," and which was engaged in constructing the road west, between Aurora and Mendota. He afterward came in the shop, acting as foreman of the car machine shop, under C.F. Allen, until he commenced work in the locomotive department, where he was worked continuously until the day he was taken sick. He was taken sick April 6th, with the grippe, which afterward developed into pneumonia, finally dying from weakness resulting from the disease.
