ALICE EMIGH RICE Alice EMIGH RICE, 78, wife of the late Dr. M. S. RICE, passed away Saturday night at Bellevue sanitarium, Batavia. While not in perfect health lately, she had been quite well up to last Tuesday, when she suddenly suffered a collapse, and since Thursday had been in a coma. Mrs. RICE was born October 2, 1865, in Vienna, Va. In her early teens the family moved to Tonica, Ill., and later Mrs. RICE went to school in Downers Grove, where she met and married Dr. RICE in 1877. Moving to Aurora in 1879; they made this city their home for the remainder of their lives. Always interested in the welfare of Aurora, Mrs. RICE took active part in civic affairs until about two years ago. Her early church work was in the Park Place Baptist. Later she became a member of the First Baptist church. She was identified with the beginning Y. W. C. A. work in Aurora and was for many years president of the City Missionary Union. She was also active in the W. C. T. U. and was one of the earliest members of the Hawthorne club. For 40 years she had been a member of the Aurora Woman's club. Dr. and Mrs. RICE celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1927, the doctor passing away in January, 1933. Mrs. RICE leaves a son Emigh RICE, and a daughter, Mrs. M. Edgar MASON, both of this city. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Healy chapel, the Rev. M. Ray McKay officiating. Interment will be in Spring Lake cemetery.
