Lewis E. REES, Passes Away In Hospital Aurora's Oldest Living Baseball Player, 95, Dies Following Fall Saturday Lewis Edward "Lou" REES, Aurora's oldest living baseball player died this morning at the St. Charles hospital, where he had been taken following a fall Saturday at his home, 509 Hoyles Ave. Born Jan. 5, 1860, in Naperville, he was 95 years old at the time of his death. Mr. REES was a foreman in the Coach shops of the Burlington railroad when he retired in 1927. He was also the first captain of the No. 5 firehouse of the Aurora fire department. Always a great lover of baseball, Mr. REES was a member of the Aurora Old Timers association, and always attended that organization's annual program at Phillips Park. Despite his age he would sit and cheer and enjoy himself as dozen of his friends came by his chair to wish him well. He was injured Saturday afternoon when he fell down a flight of three stairs leading from the back porch of his home. Mr. REES is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Anna STUBBS, and two sons, Herbert L. and George H. REES, all of Aurora; seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and a brother, Fred REES. His wife, Mrs. May REES, died July 14, 1935. Funeral services will be held Friday from Daleiden's Lincoln Avenue Mortuary. The time will be announced later. Friends may call at the mortuary after 4 o'clock tomorrow afternoon.
