Altho Mr. MATHEWSON has been in failing health the past five years, he appeared to his friends about as usual just prior to his going to the hospital, and his death came to them as quite a surprise. Adelbert Thompson MATHEWSON was the youngest son of eleven children of Mr. and Mrs. John MATHEWSON, who were among the early settlers of this community. The family resided for many years upon a farm just northeast of Elburn. He was born August 19, 1857. Mr. MATHEWSON received his education in the schools of Elburn. At a young age he began clerking in one of Elburn's general stores. He was still a young man when he entered into business conducting a drug store, and also acting as postmaster. When the Warne and Willis Bank was opened in 1898 Mr. MATHEWSON became its cashier. This bank was reorganized in 1913 and named Kane County Bank &Trust Co., and Mr. MATHEWSON was elected president. He was an active and successful official of this bank until ill health caused him to resign nearly two years ago. He has served as president of the village board, as supervisor and precinct committeeman. He was a member of the local Masonic order and of the Sycamore Commandery of Knights Templar. Mr. MATHEWSON was wedded in Elburn October 24, 1886, to DeEtta Olive WARNE, who passed from this life September 2, 1925. The surviving members of the family are; a daughter, Mrs. Gertrude MEREDITH, of Elburn; two sons, Warne John, and Harrison MATHEWSON, of Oak Park. The funeral services were held from the late residence at 3:15 o'clock Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. P.H. Clark. The remains were laid to rest beside those of the wife in Elburn cemetery.
