Myron M. Lehman M. Lehman, former mayor, dies (picture) Funeral services for former Elgin mayor Myron M. LEHMAN, 88, will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Schmidt Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in Bluff City Cemetery. Mr. LEHMAN, had lived in Memphis, Tenn., the past five years, where he had made his home with a daughter, Janice WARD. He died there Sunday. He was a member of first United Methodist Church; Monitor Lodge 522 AF & AM; the Eagles Home; the American Legion Post 57 and VFW Post 1307, he also served as president of the Illinois Municipal League. As a young boy, Mr. LEHMAN, worked as a mold holder, for a glass company where living with relatives in Terre Haute, Ind., when the fires were put out for the summer, he would return to Elgin. In 1915, he opened his own sheet metal business on the corner of East Chicago and South Spring streets. The biggest job he did in the sheet metal work was to put a copper roof on the Elgin Country Club. He later moved his shop to a store on Douglas Avenue, at the corner of East Highland Avenue. Just as the business was gaining, he was called into World War I. He served in Belgium, France, Luxembourg, and Germany. In 1931, he was elected mayor of Elgin. He served for three terms until 1943. He later worked for the Illinois State Training School for Boys in St. Charles and was again elected mayor n 1951, when the manager-councel form of government was adopted. ************* MYRON LEHMAN Memphis, Tenn. Myron M. LEHMAN, 88, former mayor of Elgin, died Sunday in the home of his daughter in Memphis, Tenn. Born June 22, 1889, in Elgin, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward LEHMAN; he had lived in Elgin all his life until moving to Memphis five years ago. Mr. LEHMAN, served as mayor of Elgin for 16 years, from 1931 to 1943 and from 1951 to 1955. He was the last mayor under the commission from of government before the city went to the manager-councel form of government. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elgin; Moniotr Lodge 522 AF & AM; the Eagles Home; the American Legion Post 57 and the VFW Post 1307, all of Elgin. He also served as a president of the Illinois Municipal League. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. J.A. (Janice) WARD of Memphis, Tenn., and Mrs. Warren (Gloris) PEARSON of Sycamore; one son, Donald of San Diego, Calif.; eight grandchildren; a half brother, Chester LEHMAN of Los Angeles, Calif., and a half sister, Mrs. David (Pearl) HOPKINS of Mindale, Utah. He was preced in death by his wife, eunice, one son, Richard; his parents; two sisters and one brother. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Schmidt Funeral Home, Elgin, the Rev. Carleton C. Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home.
