R S KING Taken from June 24, 1881, The Valley Chronicle, St. Charles, Illinois R. S. KING, a former resident of this city, died at Evanston, Ills., on the 5th of the present month, in his 64th year. His remains were interred at Rose Hill cemetery, Chicago. Mr. KING was a native of Canada, where he was born in 1817. His parents had removed from the state of New York a few years before his birth. He remained in Canada until he was 17 years of age, when he went to live with his uncle, Simon LATHROP, in the state of New York, both is parents having died. He worked at a mechanical trade for several years, and about 1840 located at St. Louis, Mo., where he remained for a considerable time. Subsequently he removed to Racine, Wisconsin, where he engaged in the business of a commission merchant. In 1848 he married Mrs. J. Lathrop BRADLEY, of St. Charles, a sister of Mrs. Bela T. HUNT. About 1849 he became a resident of this place. On the completion of the old branch railroad he erected the first grain warehouse in the place and carried on an extensive success for several years, both in St. Charles and Chicago. About 1860 he removed to Buffalo, New York, and from thence returned to St. Charles in 1862. In 1865 he became a permanent resident of Evanston, where he made himself and family a beautiful home, and where he resided until his death. For several years previous to his death he was a great sufferer from a nervous disease, and the death of his wife and daughter added greatly to his afflictions. Mr. KING was quite an extensive traveler in his later years, visiting various parts of Europe, the Holy Land, Cuba, Florida, California, etc. He was a member of the Baptist Church at Evanston, where the funeral services were conducted.
