C. E. HOLMES, Merchant, Passed Away Calvin Eugene (Gene) HOLMES, 58, 130 Downers Pl., partner in A & H Radio died Unexpectedly yesterday at his home. Mr. HOLMES had spent 37 years in radio and television sales and service. Formerly assistant physical director of the YMCA, he built the Y's first radio. He was born at DeKalb on Jan. 4, 1901. He was a member and past noble grand deputy of Ben Hur Lodge No. 370, I.O.O.F. and was a member of Trizah Rebekah Lodge No. 488; Jerusalem Temple Lodge No. 90, A.F. & A.M.; Alamo Chapter No. 693. O.E.S,: Local No. 461, I.B.E.W. and H. & S. Co., Third Infantry, Illinois Reserve Militia. Mr. HOLMES is survived by his wife, Essie GLOSSOP HOLMES, whom he married in 1922; two sons, Robert of Oswego, in business with his father and Warren of Aurora, city electrician; a daughter, Alice CAINE of Leonardsville, Kan; three grandsons; six granddaughters; a brother, Harry, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and a sister, Mrs. Lucy MOYER of Oswego. Funeral services will be held at Healy Chapel at 3 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. Frank S. Smith officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery. Ben Hur Lodge No. 70 will conduct Odd Fellow service at 3 p.m. today. Should friends desire contributions in Mr. HOLMES memory may be made to the Heart Fund. Friends may call at the chapel.
