Mrs. KATHERINA HAHN Taken from The St. Charles Chronicle, September 11, 1919 E. J. HAHN has received word of the death of his mother, Kathrina HAHN, who passed away July 9th at the age of 83 years. She is survived by six children, three in Denmark, and three in America. The word of his mother's death came to Mr. Hahn in a peculiar manner. Knowing the circumstances of living during these hard times in Denmark, Mr. Hahn enclosed a little money in a letter and sent over to the aged mother. The letter with the money still enclosed returned to him, unsealed. The envelope was put together with a stamp on which was printed, "dead." A few months ago Mr. Hahn received a letter from his mother saying it was difficulat to get some of the things she craved, such as coffee, etc. on account of the excessive price. For that reason he sent her the money. The members of the family still in Denmark are: Ferdinand, August and Jacobina. Those in America are: E. J., William and Maria. The father, August Hahn, died 12 years ago. Transcribed and submitted by: Kay Nolan on 22 Feb 2002 who can be reached at kaybill69@attbi.com.
