Mrs. GREENAWAY, Resident Here 81 Years, Dead Widow of Veteran Burlington Railroad Employe Mrs. Harriet Ellen GREENAWAY, a resident of Aurora for 81 years, died last night at 11:30 o'clock at the home of her son, J.W. GREENAWAY, 15 North Anderson street, after a brief illness. She was the widow of the late John S. GREENAWAY, veteran Burlington railroad employe, who passed away in 1930. Born at Schenectady, N.Y., Sept. 3, 1851, Mrs. GREENAWAY was brought to Aurora as a baby in 1852 by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph STUBBS. Her father was the first machinist in the service of the Burlington railroad. Residing here practically from the time of her birth Mrs. GREENAWAY saw the city grow from a tiny village to a thriving city. She was married here in 1871. Prominent Rebekah Mrs. GREENAWAY was the organizer of the Claim Street Baptist church and recently celebrated her fiftieth anniversary as a Rebekah, being a member and the first past grand of Tirzah lodge. She was for 37 years chaplain of the lodge and was a delegate to the first Illinois assembly of the Rebekahs. She was a member of the Aurora Historical society and of the Burlington Veterans' auxiliary. Two sons, Frank GREENAWAY, one of the publishers of the DeKalb Chronicle, and J.W. GREENAWAY, justice of the peace here, and a former clerk of the Aurora city court, survive. There are also two grandchildren, Frances GREENAWAY, Aurora, and Robert GREENAWAY, DeKalb, and two brothers, James J. STUBBS and Dr. E.U. STUBBS, both of Aurora. Funeral arrangements have not been completed. The Rev. J.R. Humphries will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Lake cemetery. Services will be in charge of Tirzah Rebekah lodge.
