HELEN HESTEIN DESCOUROUEZ Helen Hestein DESCOUROUEZ, 95, of Dekalb, died Friday, Dec. 12 at Pine Acres Care Center in Dekalb. Helen Matilda HEISTEN was born April 2, 1902, in Lily Lake, the daughter of Bernard (Barney) and Mathilda GIGER HEISTEN. When she was 8 years old the family moved to Virgil, and in 1915, the family moved to a farm on the east side of St. Charles. She married John DESCOUROUEZ at St. Patrick's Old Catholic Church in St. Charles on Sept. 25, 1926. The family moved to Chicago in 1936 and returned to Chicago in 1941. Helen worked at the Moline Malleable Iron Company in St. Charles until August 1953 when she became the "Mother" of her son Robert's three daughters after the death of their own mother. Helen was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in St. Charles for 60 years, and has been a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dekalb since 1986. She will be remembered by family and friends, especially for her sense of humor, and as a kind, loving woman, generous with her time and talents. She is survived by her son Robert (Diane) DESCOUROUEZ of Burlington; one daughter, Sister Mary Ellen DESCOUROUEZ, OLVM, of Huntington, Ind.; her granddaughters, Joan (Allan) METZGER and Patricia (Lupe) GALVAN, both of Dekalb and Carol (Mike) FAIRHEAD of Indianapolis, Ind.; her grandsons, Michael (Suzanne) DESCOUROUEZ of Willow Springs, N. C., and Louis (Lisa) DESCOUROUEZ of Union; her sister, Elizabeth ALBERT of St. Charles; 12 great grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John in 1977; one son William in 1981; seven brothers, Ben, Bill, John, Paul, Leonard, George and Nick HEISTEN; two sisters, Mary SAELENS and Catherine DEUTSCH; three grandsons, Philip in 1997, and Gerald and George DESCOUROUEZ and one granddaughter, Frances, all in infancy. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15 at the Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State St., Geneva. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday Dec. 15 St. Patrick's Downtown Catholic Church in St. Charles. The Rev. Al Fitzgibbons officiating. Prayers will begin at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Monday Dec. 15 prior to the funeral services. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions in Helen's memory may be made for the benefit of Our Lady of Victory Mission Sisters.
