SOLOMON WHITE HATHORN Solomon White, one of the enterprising business men of Vinton, is a native of Lincoln County, Maine, born June 24, 1839. He is a son of Solomon and Joanna (Hathorn) White, also natives of the same State. They were the parents of eight children, six of whom are now living. In 1856 they emigrated to Kane County, Illinois, locating near Maple Park, where they subsequently died. ... there is more to this biography, but Lori did not have a copy of the next page. She reports that he served in the Civil War and moved to Vinton, IA following his service. A check of the 1870 IL Census index shows 2 Solomon Whites (one a Jr.) aged 32 and 69, living in Virgil, both born in Maine. NARA census roll M593-237, pages 490 & 486.
