HENRY G SAWYER (Synopsis) BLAKE BROWN BURKITT CORLISS HARVEY KINGSLEY NIGHTINGALE Henry G. SAWYER, of Carpentersville, Ill., connected with the Star Manufacturing Co. since its organization in 1873. He was born in Elgin March 21, 1844, son of George E. SAWYER, a native of Vermont born at Bradford, Oct.17, 1815. John W. Sawyer, the grandfather, was also a native of Vermont; of English decent. George E SAWYER married in Vermont Jan. 5, 1837, to Abigail P. BLAKE, native of New Hampshire, daughter of Hezekiah BLAKE. By trade, George was a carpenter. In April 1837, he came by wagon from Vermont to Elgin, Kane Co, arriving in October. His wife's sister, Mrs David CORLISS, had located here the previous year. He took up 160 acres in Elgin tsp, and later purchased a farm in Dundee Tsp., where he resided 30 years. He them moved to Carpentersville, where he died May 22, 1894, age 79. His wife died Aug 31, 1891. Both are buried in Dundee Cemetery. They were the parents of William G. of Elgin, and Henry G. Henry G. SAWYER attended district schools in Kane Co., and Elgin Academy, helping on the farm til 22 yrs of age. He and his brother purchased a merchantile business from J.A.CARPENTER in Carpentersville. He was a charter member of Star Manufacturing Co., elected president in 1896. He married Miss Ella A. BROWN, daughter of True and Lucinda BROWN, Nov 7th, 1867. She died in Nov. 1868, and Mr. SAWYER married Mary KINGSLEY, daughter of SW KINGSLEY, a native of Mass., who came west and settled in Barrington Tsp Cook Co. 1840. Henry had 5 children by this marriage: Lora, wife of Chas. HARVEY; Bertha E., wife of Robt. NIGHTINGALE, now deceased; Calra, George K, and Addie K, twins. The mother of these children died March 25, 1879, and Mr. SAWYER next married Lillian BURKITT, daughter of Willaim BURKITT of Cook co. By this marriage were 3 children: Clarence E., Ethel M, and Howard C. The Biographical Record of Kane Co., Illinois 1898 S.J.
