JOHN W SEYMOUR (Synopsis) CAMPBELL HENDRICKSON MILLER POTTER TOWNSEND WOOD John W. SEYMOUR- Native of Yates Co., New York, born 3 March 1833, of English descent. Jesse SEYMOUR, grandfather, served in the war of 1812, and Jesse's father Ebenezer, aided in the Rev. War by supplying the army with cattle. John SEYMOUR, father of John W., was born 2 Dec. 1784 in Putnam Co. New York, and his mother Elizabeth was a native of Yates Co.NY, born 1 Dec. 1794. They emigrated in the spring of 1842 to Millers Grove, Barrington, Cook Co. Ill. with 10 children. John died 27 Aug. 1876 in Elgin, the mother died at the Cook Co. homestead 28 Sept. 1881. Five children are yet living: Harvey, Mrs. H.M. CAMPBELL of Edgewood, Ill., Mrs. J.M. MILLER of Elgin, Joseph B. and John W. John W. came to Illinois when 9 years old. He married 31 Dec.1857 to Miss Emily L. WOOD, of Volo, Lake Co. Ill., a native of Gainesville, Wyoming Co. NY, born 1 July 1837. Her parents George L. and Phoebe POTTER WOOD came to Volo in 1844, and died there. John and Emily have 2 children William born 2 March 1859 and Kleber A. born 6 July 1865 and died 15 Aug 1888. 1868 Mr. SEYMOUR removed his family to Barrington Station, Cook Co., and engaged in merchandising with A.K. TOWNSEND. In 1873, he moved to Elgin. In 1882, he and his wife went on a trip abroad. In 1892, he located at the Concho Valley Stock ranch, 4 miles north of San Angelo, Texas. The ranch is supervised by the son, who married Jennie E. HENDRICKSON, daughter of Norman G. and Emily TOWNSEND HENDRICKSON. They have one son Claude H. William H. SEYMOUR also deals in coal, wood, cement, etc in Elgin as member of Adams and SEYMOUR. John W. SEYMOUR aided in the organization of the Elgin National Bank in 1892 and is a director. Served as school trustee in the town of Barrington. Mrs SEYMOUR died 31 July, 1897. Mr. SEYMOUR lives at 165 North Gifford St., Elgin; which residence he erected 25 years ago.
