PROFESSOR MARTIN QUACKENBUSH FOSS BOYNTON DUTTON JAMISON McCLURE WILKINSON WOLF Professor Marvin QUACKENBUSH, of Dundee, Illinois. Superintendent of schools of Kane Co. since 1886. Native of New York, born in Hatwick, Ostego Co., NY on Nov. 25, 1842. Father Abram QUACKENBUSH was also born that county 1801, as was his grandfather James QUACKENBUSH. Family was originally of Holland, settled in New York 17th century. James served in the War of 1812. He settled in Ostego co. Son Abram married there in 1826 to Miss Delaney WOLF, also native to New York. Abram had 6 children: Catherine, Edward, Maria, Adelia, Amelia, and Marvin. Abram came west in 1850, settling in Kane Co. near St. Charles, where he purchased a farm. He was also a blacksmith. Some years later, he moved to Laporte City, Iowa, where he died at his daughters residence in 1885. Marvin attended Jennings Seminary in Aurora, and Bryant and Stratton's Commercial College, Chicago. He enlisted in the 13th Illinois Volunteer Infantry, but rejected due to injured foot. In Nov. 1864, he joined the 153rd Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry, serving until 21 July 1865. Marvin returned to teaching school first in country schools, then in charge of the St.Charles School on the east side for 6 years. Then he taught 1 year in Geneva, and 11 Years in Dundee. He was married in Aug. 1870 to Miss Eleanor BOYNTON, of Dundee, at Clintonville, Ill. She was a daughter of Nathan and Margaret McCLURE BOYNTON, pioneers of Dundee. They have one son, Edward. General McCLURE was Eleanors grandfather, a soldier of the war of 1812, who died in Elgin 1850. Biographical Record of Kane Co., Ill. 1898 S.J.
