THOMAS W DUNCAN EPPENSTEIN HAWKINS Thomas W. DUNCAN - Manager of the Illinois Watch Case Factory. A native of Lindsay, Canada, Thomas Wellington DUNCAN was born Dec.6, 1858, son of James and Mary HAWKINS DUNCAN. Paternal grandfather Thomas DUNCAN was a native of Belfast, Ireland, also birth place of his son James, who left there in 1837 and immigrated to Canada. James was by trade a carpenter. He is still living in Lindsay. Mary was the daughter of Thomas and Jane HAWKINS and was born in Edinburg, Scotland, where her parents spent their lives. James and Mary had 6 children: Thomas, Jane, Margaret, John, James and William. Thomas acquired his education in Lindsay, and learned the watchmakers trade in Toronto, Canada. In 1881, he moved to Chicago, and in 1887 became a memeber of the firm of M.C. Eppenstein and Co., wholesale jewelers of that City. In 1888 the Illinois Watch Case Factory was incorporated in Chicago, and in May 1890, was moved to Elgin. Biographical Record of Kane Co., Ill. 1898 S.J.
