GEORGE E ALLEN JUDKINS PLANT ROBERTSON WALTERS WESTVEER George E. ALLEN, who is now filling the position of health officer in Elgin, having served continuously since 1901 with the exception of a period of 2 yrs, was born in Hampshire, Illinois, Feb. 3, 1863. When 5 yrs of age, he was brouhgt to this city by his parents, Mr. and Mrs., Edson K. ALLEN, who are mentioned elsewhere in this work. While spending his boyhood days under the parental roof he pursued a puvlic school course, passing thru succssive grades and attending the high school to within a month of his graduation, when he was taken ill with rheumatism and could not complete the course. He afterward became a student in the Elgin Academy and after leaving that institution he entered the employ of T.W. PLANT, a grocer, with whom he was connected for 5 yrs, being a most trusted faithful and competent employe. On the expiration of that period he went to Chicago, and with his father was engaged in building and contract work, but in 1889 he returned to Elgin, because of his fathers ill health. He has since lived in this city and for three years was a bookkeeper in the employ of Alexander ROBERTSON. Suffering again from rheumatism, he was then unable to do any work for a time, but in 1901 he was appointed health officer of the city of Elgin and has since contunued in the position save for the period of 2 yrs, being the present incumbent. He is also chairman of the board of examiners for plumbers in Elgin. On the 18th of Dec, 1884, Mr ALLEN was married to Miss Kate WESTVEER, a daughter of John and Hattie (WALTERS) WESTVEER. They have one child, Hattie M. now the wife of Ralph H. JUDKINS of Elgin. Mr. ALLEN votes the republican party. The only office he has ever held is the one which he is now filling. In mercantile and other business connectionns he has proven reliable and the same spirit of fidelity and progressiveness characterizes him in his present office. He is well known here and unfeigned cordiality makes him popular with many friends.
